Signs of Misogyny
- A man who often respects men while looking at women as if they are beneath him
- A man who will feel the need to belittle women when he feels as though she has surpassed him in any way, but has understanding when it is a man who has surpassed him
- A man who believes infidelity is okay when in a monogamous relationship because he feels as though he doesn’t owe women anything
- A man who will often keep his words when it comes to men but fail to do so with women
- A man who will engage in a position that avoids looking a woman in her eyes when engaging sexually
- A man who will intentionally use charm to reel a woman in and once he has her become abusive, demeaning, and degrading
- A woman who often sides with demeaning and degrading perspectives of women, usually seen as a “pick me”
- A woman who believes women are inherently weaker, smaller, and less intelligent than men biologically
- A woman who often allows her entire identity to be made up of how she can be pleasurable to a man
- A woman who believes there is only one “right” way to be a woman, usually a stereotypical traditional woman
Misogyny is limited in retrospect due to the vague definition of what it is. We often do not label misogyny unless it is a blatant hatred towards women. However, misogyny continues to flourish in our society every day due to the lack of accountability misogynistic men are held to. While also women’s own internalized misogyny that allows for misogyny to be deemed acceptable.
Men will misconstrue their sexual attraction to women as the inability to be misogynistic. A man’s entitlement to thinking a woman owes him her body because of a date, a relationship, or a ring are all signs of misogyny. However, society will perpetuate a logic that rape and wife do not coexist. While the truth is you hate women so much, you stopped seeing them as women and solely as objects. All in all, misogyny is a logic that is detrimental to both men and women and if not acknowledged can perpetuate a harmful way of thinking, treating, and viewing of women.
